Description

1988 Camargue 48 Cockpit Motor Yacht

One of the “Best Values” in the market today. VAR KORALL underwent an extensive refit with her previous Owner which included a custom fiberglass hardtop and Awlgrip paint from top to bottom by the Huckins Yard in Jacksonville, Florida. Powered by twin Cat 3208 TA’s, they look and run great sporting only 1,978 hours at this writing. The interior is classic Philippine mahogany and is arranged with forward and aft staterooms, each with island berths and their own heads with showers. The galley is down from, but open to, the salon. It has all the necessary equipment and is opposite a dinette that very comfortably seats 4 or 5 when required.

Model History and Construction

Model History:

The 48 Yachtfish was built by Carmargue Company LTD. Kaohsiung, Taiwan for 7 years between 1987 and 1993. She was based on the Camargue 42 Motor Yacht, extended by 6’ to facilitate a cockpit, easier line handling , better performance due to longer waterline and better access to the water for fishing, swimming or boarding from a dinghy. The Camargue 48 Yachtfish is regarded as a well-built, good-looking yacht with above average build quality.

Construction:

The 48 Yachtfish is a hand laid fiberglass vessel using polyester resin, E-glass fiberglass cloth and matt and coring materials of balsa, plywood, and other hardwoods. The hull bottom is solid fiberglass with balsa cored hull sides above the waterline. The stringer system has a wood core encased in fiberglass. This is laid up while the hull is still in the mold to prevent flexing. The deck is also made of fiberglass with a wood core in high stress areas.

Vessel Walkthrough

Salon is entered from the aft deck, going down 4 steps. Forward of the salon, and down 3 more steps, is the galley and dinette. Going forward, we find the guest stateroom with private head and shower. Starboard aft of the salon are steps leading down to the Master Stateroom, island berth with private head and shower. Willy McCormick began sailing in 1972 purchasing a 48′ wooden Ketch with 2 other former Marine Corps Officers for the sole purpose of winding down after a tour of duty that included Viet Nam. After cruising the East Coast and the Bahamas, he was firmly hooked on sailing and being close to the ocean. In 1976 a stint as a grocery store owner in Ohio was finished. He returned to sailing for the adrenalin rush and ongoing adventure. By the end of the 70’s he had his own yacht delivery company racking up over 100,000 miles on offshore deliveries and arranging many more through his network of Captains and mates.

His personal log covers trips from Seattle, Washington to Lima, Peru, 4 transits of the Panama Canal, Nova Scotia to Trinidad and Monaco to the West Indies as well as numerous trips up and down the East Coast and charter seasons in the Caribbean.

From 1983 to 1993 he owned a windsurfing school and retail business in Wilmington, NC where in the early 90’s he began doing Yacht Brokerage. Seven years with custom builder Paul Bennet at Bennett Brothers Yachts in Wilmington, NC and four and a half years at Rybovich Spencer in West Palm Beach helped round out his expertise in yachting. Willy had a 100 ton license with Auxiliary Sail, maintains his Florida Yacht Brokers license, is a member of the International Yacht Brokers Association and a veteran of their yearly “Yacht Sales and the Law Seminars”.

In 2008, he earned the designation of Certified Professional Yacht Broker (CPYB).

Continuing Education is important for any professional, especially in an industry as dynamic as Yachting. From September 2017 to September 2018, Willy attended the following:

Yacht Sales and the Law Seminar, sponsored by IYBA in Fort Lauderdale, FL

Captains Seminar on the 2000 series M96 Engines by MTU in Fort Lauderdale, FL

Shipyards and Brokers Seminar by IYBA in Monaco

Yacht Engineering Seminar by IYBA in Fort Lauderdale

Yacht Sales and the Law Seminar, September 2018

In addition, while in Monaco, he traveled to Viareggio, Italy with his Client to inspect shipyards, such as Mangusta, Italian Yacht Group, Admiral, CCN, and AB Yachts. Ultimately settling on CCN for this clients 40m new build project.
