Industry Review

Perfectly balanced, the Grand Soleil 39 has been designed with an eye on just those sea-going characteristics that the most exacting sailors always hope to find.

The hull is fast and powerful, capable of sailing at speed even in a light breeze and requires very little sail. It cuts softly through short bow waves without slapping up or down or slowing its pace, and does not dip into larger waves.

The Grand Soleil 39 sails close-hauled even in strong winds and choppy seas, with only a moderate heel. With the spinnaker flying it remains steady, and yaws only at the last minute.

A particularly striking feature is the rudder's manageability. It is a strange feeling to be able to control effortlessly with the mere touch of a finger, almost nine tons speeding away at nine knots.

  • The chainplates for the main shrouds that attach to the Transverse and Longitudinal Stringers under the settees port and starboard are pulling in creating indentations inboard just above the waterline.

This is visible from the outside of the vessel.
