COMMENTS AND NOTEWORTHY FEATURES
LIARA is a very highly specified, multi-purpose custom sailing yacht built of advanced carbon composites providing a comfortable and efficient world capable cruising platform with the ability to be transformed quickly for regatta competition. The owner has owned several custom sailing yachts previous to LIARA and was deeply involved in the initial design with Malcolm McKeon and Adam Lay Studios. The desire was for a fast performance cruising yacht that could double as a fast racing yacht. Baltic yachts in Finland was chosen as the best shipyard option to build such a custom advanced composite sailing yacht offering hi tech and efficient solutions and launching a yacht that is one of the lightest cruiser/racers built to date for her size.
Malcolm McKeon designed a remarkably fast yacht on any point of sail. This performance translates into a more enjoyable sailing experience when cruising as well as enviable racing performances if desired.
Adam Lay (Studios) created a very natural, calm, high quality interior inspired by the natural environment of the owner’s home islands and very capably translating the owner’s design brief into LIARA’s interior:
“The design brief for LIARA was to create a practical and functional sailing yacht interior with smart stowage solutions and an open feel that reflects the natural environment of the owner’s home in the Channel Islands. The interior space is massive relative to her LOA due to remarkable design and engineering work by Malcolm McKeon allowing an open, airy interior that belies her length overall. Noting her plans to sail far and wide, utilizing every available space under and above her floors to maximize stowage has been successfully designed into LIARA. The interior is intentionally “weathered” to offer a comfortable and relaxed feeling aboard. The oak joinery is a balance of grey stained and limed oak with bleached oak. A neutral backdrop that will allow any future owner the option of making his/her changes to suit a different décor”.
LIARA has won several notable awards:
Design and Innovation Awards Winner 2020 “Best Sailing Yacht Interior Design”
Design and Innovation Awards Winner 2020 “Outstanding Exterior Design Sailing Yachts”
The owner was keen to keep sailing preparation to a minimum so emphasis was put on easily deployed sails and dedicated stowage for running rigging and sails with highly efficient trimming and rig handling systems. Efficient systems and yacht operations combined with light displacement are essential factors in creating a relatively low carbon footprint and less consumptive sailing yacht, every effort was made to reduce weight while offering efficient energy solutions for operations aboard LIARA.
With the design brief to include world cruising, LIARA’s deck was optimized for comfort and safety. Her cockpit layout includes a beautifully designed removable carbon bimini top providing excellent safety and protection from the elements. The bimini is easily removed for racing, is also fitted with a sliding sun roof and links the cockpit with the spectacular deck saloon and stylish accommodation via curved glass sliding door.
LIARA represents years of design work by a team of experienced sailors, designers, yacht managers and the finest composite shipyard in the industry. She was built by Baltic Yachts which is regarded as arguably the best custom composite shipyard in the world if you want a fully custom, innovative, and light weight sailing yacht. Her specification is “state of the art” in terms of her systems and equipment. LIARA was launched in 2019 during a difficult worldwide travel period and has had limited use as a result. She has just completed her warranty period and is being made available for sale without the significant delays required to design and build such a yacht due to a change in the owner’s plans. This is a unique situation with inspections highly recommended.
